治安の良いアイルランドでも
『油断大敵』
先日、フードマーケットについてのブログを書きましたが。とても楽しいマーケットで大好きな場所なのですが、実はそこには苦い思い出があったりもします…。今回は、そのことについて触れてみたいと思います。
苦い思い出と言うのは、実は私、そのマーケットで
スリに遭ったのです！
アイルランドは基本的に治安のいい国ですが、やはり油断は大敵。そう思わされた出来事でした。
それは、友達と初めてフードマーケットを訪れた日のこと。
ダブリンに来て2か月ほど経った頃で、生活にも街にも、だいぶ慣れてきた頃。ヒップバッグを持ってマーケットを訪れたのでした。ヒップバッグで、ってところが完全な間違い。当然、財布やらカメラやらの貴重品はそのバッグの中なわけで。もうホント、完全なる気のゆるみですね。。
初めて訪れたマーケットの楽しさに、わぁーと盛り上がり、あっちのお店やこっちのお店、いろいろ覗いて写真を撮りまくって友達と楽しんでいました。で、ふとバッグに手をまわしてみたら、あれ？ファスナーが開いてる…あれ？えと、サイフ…え？
サイフ、ないんだけど！
一瞬にして顔面蒼白。「サイフ、スられた。。」
とつぶやく私に友達も「えぇ?!」とこれまた顔面蒼白。
どうしよう、どうしよう、どうしよう…本当に頭の中が一瞬真っ白になりました。でも、これまた白状しますが、実は私、日本でひったくりに遭った経験がありまして。（どんだけマヌケなんだ。。）まず一番最初にしなくてはならないことはなんだ、えーっと、えーっと、警察、いやつたない英語で状況説明するより、まずは、
クレジットカード止めるのが先だ！
と、判断しました。日本でひったくりに遭った際、駆けつけた警察は、まずカードを止めろと、各カード会社の緊急連絡先を教えてくれたのを思い出したのです。
当時英語力が全然だったから状況説明も時間がかかるし、何より、アイルランドの警察が日本のカード会社の緊急連絡先なんてわかるわけがない。
というわけで、当時ホームステイしていた家に駆け戻り、コレクトコールで自分が持っていたカードの緊急連絡先に、電話をかけまくりました。
そのとき財布ごと盗まれたカードは3枚。電話番号がわからなかったカード会社もありましたが、コレクトコールの担当の方が状況を察してくれて、番号がわからずともカード会社へつないでくれたり。コレクトコールでは受け付けないって書いてあったカード会社でも、「コレクトコールでつないでください！」って言い切ってつないでもらって、何も言われず、電話代も請求されずに対応してもらったり。
こうして何とかカードを全部止め、事なきを得ました。が、やはりどのカードも、「使用されてはいないものの、使おうとした形跡がある」とのこと。やっぱり、止める手続きを一番最初にしてよかった。。その後、警察へも連絡したところ来てくれるということになりましたが、待てど暮らせど結局来ず。。うん、やっぱりカードを先に止めて正解だった。
みなさん、いくら治安が安全と言っても、
やはり外国。
ヒップバッグなんか使っちゃいけません。（←あたり前だ。。）そして、コレクトコールのかけ方やカード会社の緊急連絡先、持ち歩かなくても、せめてどこに保管してあるかは覚えておきましょう。万が一、運悪くスリなどにあった場合は、まずはカード会社に連絡です。焦ってもいいことは何一つないので、焦らず冷静に、です。
それよりなにより、ちょっと気をつけていれば防げること。私のように気を緩めなければ、避けられることなので、私のバカな例を参考に（？）いくら慣れた街であっても、防犯に気を付けることを忘れずにいてください！
