エジプトには
ピラミッド以外にも世界遺産がある！
エジプトの世界遺産といえばピラミッドなどの古代遺跡が有名ですが、カイロのイスラーム地区にあるイスラーム建築群も世界遺産です。
こんなに多くのイスラム建築が密集している地域は世界でも珍しいと思います。
イスラーム地区は広い上に、道が細くバスなどが通れないので、基本は徒歩移動です。なので、じっくり見ようと思うと１日では足りません。
短期旅行でエジプトを訪れる場合は、有名なシタデル周辺とお土産物街のハーンハリーリぐらいという方が多いのではないでしょうか。
実際、初めてのエジプト旅行の際は、私もとりあえず有名なところを回っていました。でも、イスラーム地区をじっくり見てみると本当に多くのモスクやマドラサが残っているのだなぁと感心します。
イスラーム地区の中心、アズハル広場より南からシタデルまでの間の区間は世界遺産ではありますが割と庶民的なガーマが多いです。
シタデルはかなり観光地化されているので観光客が多いですし、ガーマ・アズハルは無料ですが世界最古の大学であるアズハル大学に併設されていることもあり、観光客だけでなく熱心なイスラム教徒（エジプト人だけでなく世界各国のイスラム教徒）がコーランを朗読したりしていて熱気があります。
しかし、ちょっと庶民的で観光客が少ないガーマではお昼寝をしたり、世間話をしている人達がいたりして、微笑ましい光景を見ることができます。
個人的には、ブルーモスクやガーマ・マリダーニーなどのように、中庭に植物が茂っている感じが砂漠のオアシスっぽくて好きです。
とはいえ、２つのガーマの印象は少し異なっていました。まず情報として、ブルーモスクは2013年ごろは閉鎖されていたようですが、2015年9月現在では中に入れました。ブルーモスクという名前ですが、外観は地味で、青いイズニックタイルも一部しか残っていませんが、閉鎖期間中は修繕期間だったのか小綺麗なモスクでした。
後者は回廊の造りなど凝っていて、建築としては素敵なのですが、修繕されていないようで、寂れた感じがします。
残念ながらこのように、庶民的モスクは資金不足もあり、なかなか修繕ができずに放置されてしまっているものも多いです。閉鎖されているものもあれば、消失してしまったものもあるそうです。
せっかくの歴史あるイスラーム建築を守る為に、無料であっても少しは寄付をすべきなのかなと思います。（以前、バクシーシをけちるような内容の記事を書いていますが・・・）
